Two Sunnyvale natives have pledged to literally take a stand against pediatric HIV and AIDS. Daniel Porat and Omer Hit have joined the Pediatric AIDS Coalition at UCLA for its Presidents Day weekend 26-hour dance marathon to raise money and awareness regarding pediatric HIV and AIDS. For the past 11 years, the coalition has contributed more than $3 million toward beneficiaries such as the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Project Kindle, a free camp for children affected by AIDS and the UCLA AIDS Institute.

The event takes place on the weekend of Feb. 16-17. Thousands of students, parents, alumni and the public come together for the dance marathon, which has become the largest collegiate charity event in California.

Participants raise at least $250 each. As registered dancers, both Porat and Hit will spend 26 hours with fellow dancers, learning about the disease and meeting young children who are affected. Last year’s event united more than 3,000 supporters and raised more than $450,000.
